Norman, United States – Video filmed by X user Jake Cribbs captures a deeply emotional moment before the University of Oklahoma softball game against Michigan on May 17, 2026.
An approximately 11-year-old boy stood at home plate to sing the national anthem when he became overwhelmed with emotion and began crying, unable to complete the performance.
As he struggled, the OU crowd immediately stepped in, singing the remainder of “The Star-Spangled Banner” together in emotional support of the boy.
After the anthem ended, members of the OU softball team and head coach Patty Gasso approached him on the field.
They offered hugs, encouragement, and reassurance while the stadium continued to applaud.
The moment focused on the boy’s emotional breakdown and the crowd’s collective response as they sang alongside him to help him through it.
