Worker Buried Waist-Deep In Sand Rescued From Collapsed Construction Pit In China

Wuzhong, China – Firefighters rescued a worker who became buried from the waist down after sand and soil collapsed inside a construction pit in Wuzhong, Ningxia.

Video posted by China Fire, crediting Ningxia Fire, shows firefighters working at night inside the narrow, muddy excavation as the trapped man remains surrounded by wet soil.

Crews faced the risk of a secondary collapse as they worked in the confined space. Four firefighters rotated through the rescue, clearing mud by hand, using a pole and reinforcing the sides of the pit.

After freeing the worker, firefighters placed him on a stretcher and carried him out before he was transferred to a hospital.

China Fire and Ningxia Fire warned that excavation slopes should be properly supported before work begins. They also urged people not to rush into a collapsed pit and instead call emergency services.
