Panama City, Florida – A woman has been arrested in Bay County after impersonating a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent to kidnap the wife of her ex-boyfriend.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office released video footage of the April 10 arrest. Deputies responded to the Bridge Plaza Apartments after reports of a suspicious incident.
Authorities said the suspect arrived at the victim’s workplace wearing a black shirt with “ICE” printed on it. She also had a radio and a business card appearing to be from the sheriff’s office.
The suspect ordered the victim into a vehicle, threatening to call more ICE agents. The victim complied, fearing deportation as she is in the process of becoming a legal U.S. resident.
While in the vehicle, the suspect took the victim’s phone when she tried to contact her husband and lawyer.
The suspect claimed they were going to pick up more ICE agents. At an apartment complex, the suspect went inside, and the victim escaped.
A neighbor helped the victim and contacted police. The suspect approached the neighbor and asked if he had seen a woman running. When questioned about taking the phone, the suspect said, “She knows what she did.”
Police said the victim’s husband identified the suspect as his ex-girlfriend. He noted he had a restraining order against her from a previous attack.
Authorities discovered the suspect was on probation for aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony.
She now faces charges including kidnapping, robbery by sudden snatching, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and probation violation.
