Valdesamario (La Utrera), León, Spain – A wildfire erupted around 2:45 p.m. on July 28, 2026, sending thick columns of smoke above forested mountain slopes as flames spread along the ridgelines.

Aerial footage shows active flames moving through pine-covered hills, with dirt tracks winding across the terrain beneath hazy skies.

The fire quickly reached Potential Gravity Index level 2 because of the risk to nearby populations. Around 66 people were evacuated from La Utrera and La Velilla, while residents of La Garandilla and El Castro were ordered to remain confined.

The blaze burned in the same municipality as the earlier Murias de Ponjos fire.

By the morning of July 29, the perimeter had been stabilized overnight and the fire’s Potential Gravity Index was lowered to level 1. Residents were then allowed to return.
