Wells RNLI Rescues Two People Trapped by Incoming Tide

Wells, England – On April 17, Wells RNLI was called to assist two people trapped by the incoming tide at the Wells Harbour run. The request came at 3:27 p.m. from Humber Coastguard, prompting the launch of the inshore lifeboat Peter Wilcox.

The lifeboat crew launched at 3:39 p.m. and quickly located the two individuals at 3:44 p.m. on a sand bar to the west of the harbour mouth. They were taken aboard the lifeboat and brought ashore to the lifeboat house. Both individuals were unharmed and did not require further medical assistance.

Mandy Humphreys, Wells RNLI Water Safety Officer and lifeboat crew member, stressed the dangers of getting cut off by the tide. She advised anyone in such a situation to call 999, request the Coastguard, and stay calm and dry until help arrives. Wading through water, especially over marshes or sandbars, can be dangerous due to rapidly changing depths.

To avoid being cut off, people are urged to return to dry land with no channels or drains to cross at least four hours before Wells bar high tide time.

The lifeboat was recovered, refueled, and prepared for future service.
