St Albans, England – Police bodycam footage captured the moment officers found a wanted man hiding underneath a duvet with a shopping bag over his head while searching a property.

The suspected shoplifter attempted to evade arrest by hiding inside the home. When officers asked a woman at the door if the suspect was inside, she replied, “No,” before police entered to search the property.

During the search, an officer moved through the house before reaching a bed with an upturned shopping bag at the pillow end. After removing the bag, the officer found the man hiding underneath.

“How are you, mate?” the officer said while laughing, before adding, “Keep your hands where I can see them.”

Police said they had seen many unusual attempts to avoid detection over the years, but placing a bag over the head was a first. They warned people not to use a bag over their head when hiding because it is unsafe.

The man was arrested in St Albans.
