Two Police Cars Crash While Responding To Burglary Call

Davenport, United States – Two Davenport Police Department squad cars crashed while responding to an active disturbance call, with dash cam footage capturing the moment of impact during an emergency response on April 24.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of West Third Street after reports of a burglary in progress. The 911 caller stated that minors had broken into a home, damaged property, and were “beating up the caller’s kids.”

Police said officers arrived within minutes and requested additional units due to a fight at the scene. Dispatch instructed all responding units to increase urgency and proceed quickly to assist.

While en route, two police vehicles collided at the intersection of Third and Marquette Streets. Both cars were using sirens and emergency lights at the time of the crash. Each vehicle had a single officer inside, and both were later towed after being disabled.

Dash cam recordings show the moments leading up to the collision from both vehicles. One recording captures the impact and immediate aftermath, while the other cuts off at the moment of collision due to a power failure caused by the crash.

The Iowa State Patrol handled the investigation into the incident. An internal administrative review was also carried out, with any follow-up actions taken under department procedures and Iowa law.

Davenport Police Interim Chief Greg Behning said officers undergo annual driver training to prepare for high-pressure situations. He expressed relief that no serious injuries occurred and noted the risks involved in emergency driving during urgent calls.
