North Austin, United States – A driver wanted on multiple warrants was arrested after a pursuit ended when Texas Department of Public Safety troopers used a precision immobilization technique on a pickup truck traveling on northbound U.S. 183 near the MoPac Boulevard exit.
The incident happened at about 3:53 a.m. after troopers identified a pickup connected to an earlier dangerous pursuit on May 13. Officials had previously released dashcam footage from that earlier chase, showing the vehicle driving the wrong way toward oncoming traffic and creating what authorities described as a serious threat to other drivers.
On Sunday, troopers attempted to stop the pickup for multiple traffic violations. Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated and weaved through traffic in an effort to escape.
Due to the risk posed to the public, troopers used a PIT maneuver less than a mile into the pursuit. The technique forces a fleeing vehicle to rotate and come to an abrupt stop by striking its rear quarter.
The maneuver caused the pickup to hit a median wall and overturn, landing upside down on the roadway. Dashcam footage shows both the pursuit and the moment of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that all occupants were removed from the vehicle. Two passengers suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene from emergency personnel.
A search of the truck reportedly uncovered open containers of alcohol and marijuana shake.
The driver was later charged with evading arrest and taken into custody. Officials said he also had multiple active warrants in Travis County, including assault on a pregnant person, repeated bond violations, and additional evading arrest charges. After being medically cleared, he was booked into Travis County Jail.
