Thousands Pack Sydney Town Hall As Peaceful Pro Palestine Rally Surges In Strength

Sydney, Australia – A video filmed by X user @JuAvrilT captures the early, calm moments of a massive pro-Palestine rally at Sydney Town Hall in the central business district on February 9, 2026.

The footage shows thousands of demonstrators tightly filling Town Hall Square and the historic sandstone steps and balcony, creating a sweeping display of red, white, green, and black Palestinian flags waving across the crowd.

Large banners and placards are visible throughout the scene, including messages such as “JEWS say War Criminals here HERZOG OUT!”, “STOP THE GENOCIDE”, “FREE PALESTINE”, references to Anne Frank, and branding from Palestine Action Group.

Protesters chant loudly, cheer speakers positioned on elevated areas, and climb railings and ledges to record the moment on their phones, building a powerful atmosphere of unity under bright summer skies.

No clashes with police, pepper spray, or arrests appear in these clips, which focus entirely on the rally’s size, energy, and collective message.

The demonstration was organized by Palestine Action Group and allied groups, drawing thousands of people, with police estimates around 6,000 attendees, to oppose the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Australia.

Herzog’s trip included meetings with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and a wreath laying at Bondi Pavilion following the December 2025 Bondi Beach mass shooting during a Hanukkah event that killed 15 people.

Speakers at the rally included Grace Tame, Mehreen Faruqi, Mohamed Duar, Lizzie Jarrett, and Antony Loewenstein, who said Israel’s actions “endanger all of us, including Jews” and referred to Herzog as an “extremist.”

While the rally began with peaceful speeches and displays of solidarity, it later escalated as protesters attempted to march toward NSW Parliament, leading to police force, pepper spray, and 27 arrests.
