Thousands Flood Sydney Rally As Protest Over Israeli President Visit Turns Chaotic

Sydney, Australia – A video recorded by X user Stewart Mills captures activist, journalist, and author Antony Loewenstein addressing a massive pro-Palestine protest at Sydney Town Hall in the city’s central business district.

The footage shows Loewenstein speaking forcefully into a microphone under warm summer daylight, gesturing as a large crowd fills the square around the historic building.

Behind him, demonstrators wave Palestinian flags, wear keffiyehs, and hold signs calling for justice, ceasefires, and an end to war, creating a charged atmosphere of solidarity and activism.

The clip includes his direct statement: “Israel’s actions are endangering all of us,” criticizing Israel’s policies amid the ongoing conflict and wider global security concerns.

The rally was organized to oppose the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Australia, drawing thousands of participants, with estimates ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 people.

Prominent speakers at the event included Grace Tame, Mehreen Faruqi, Mohamed Duar, Lizzie Jarrett, and Loewenstein, who is known for his book “The Palestine Laboratory.”

While the gathering began peacefully with speeches and chants, tensions rose as protesters attempted to march.

Clashes erupted with NSW Police, leading to dozens of arrests. Demonstrators were pepper-sprayed, shoved, beaten, and injured, with reports of an officer punching a protester.

No serious injuries were reported, but organizers and human rights groups condemned the police response.

The video was posted on February 9, 2026, during the rally between roughly 5:30 and 7 p.m., quickly drawing strong public engagement and heated reactions online.
