White Settlement, Texas, USA – Bodycam footage shows North Texas officers improvising a rescue after a mother and her three children were trapped in fast-moving floodwaters on Saturday night.
The incident unfolded around 11:12 p.m. in the 8100 block of Western Hills Boulevard when a sedan became stranded and “high-centered” on a curb as an overflowing drainage channel sent water rushing toward a nearby creek. The front of the vehicle was quickly overwhelmed by the current.
A White Settlement patrol supervisor moved three children found near the car into his patrol vehicle for safety. He then reached the mother, who was trapped at the driver’s side door and unable to escape the rising water.
With no rescue rope available and concern that the vehicle or woman could be swept away before firefighters arrived, officers turned to an improvised solution. A set of jumper cables from a patrol unit was used as an emergency lifeline.
Under police direction, the mother secured the cables around her chest and under her arms while three officers anchored the other end to prevent her from being pulled into the current.
Firefighters later arrived on scene and pulled the vehicle back onto the roadway. All four family members were medically assessed and confirmed to be unharmed.
The supervising officer, identified as Sgt. John Banner, remained with the mother throughout the ordeal to help keep her calm.
