Teenager Inches From Death After Running Red Light And Losing Control Into Truck

Dong’an County, Hunan Province, China – A 13-year-old boy riding an electric bicycle narrowly avoided being pulled under a heavy semi-trailer truck after entering an intersection against a red light in Baishashi Town on April 24, 2026.

The teenager proceeded into the junction without slowing down despite the red signal. As he crossed, a heavy truck suddenly appeared from the right side of the road.

In response, he braked sharply and turned left in an attempt to avoid danger. The sudden maneuver caused him to lose control of the electric bicycle, leading to a fall and a collision with the semi-trailer. He came extremely close to being dragged beneath the truck but suffered only minor abrasions.

Traffic authorities later confirmed that the boy, who is under 16 years old, was illegally riding an electric bicycle and had run the red light, making him fully responsible for the incident.

Officials warned that with the summer holiday period approaching, more school-age children will be active in traffic. They urged parents to strengthen supervision and reinforce basic road safety rules such as stopping at red lights and moving on green.

Authorities also reminded that children under 12 should not ride bicycles, and those under 16 should not operate electric bicycles.
