Lehigh Acres, Florida, USA – A suspect was arrested after allegedly opening fire on a law enforcement drone that was deployed as a first responder during an incident over the weekend in the Todd Avenue S area.
The Drone As First Responder unit was launched to assist with a call in the area. While monitoring the scene, the drone operator observed several males carrying what appeared to be a firearm.
Moments later, one individual, identified as Elvin Antonio Callejas-Serrato, allegedly pointed the weapon at the drone and appeared to fire two rounds in its direction.
Deputies already in the area quickly responded and made contact with the group. During the investigation, they recovered a BB rifle loaded with steel projectiles.
Callejas-Serrato was detained and charged with shooting or throwing deadly missiles into an aircraft.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno highlighted the purpose of the technology used in the response, stating it is designed to protect and serve residents, and that the drone system helps keep both deputies and the community safe. He also warned that anyone who threatens or harms law enforcement resources will be held accountable.
