Thonotosassa, United States – A man was arrested after attempting to conduct a fake traffic stop on an undercover Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office vehicle while driving on U.S. Highway 301 North.
On June 24, 2026, a black Chevrolet Suburban activated red and blue emergency lights while following an undercover sheriff’s vehicle, appearing to initiate a traffic stop.
Deputies quickly intervened and stopped the vehicle involved. During the investigation, officials recovered an illegal emergency light system, an additional two-foot emergency light bar, and a firearm.
The driver, identified as 46-year-old Nadi Jabari, was arrested and charged with false personation, unlawful use of blue lights, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Authorities stated that impersonating law enforcement poses a serious risk to public safety and undermines trust between deputies and the community.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said the actions were dangerous and deliberate, adding that officials will aggressively pursue anyone who attempts to impersonate law enforcement in order to intimidate or endanger others.
Officials also advised that if someone is unsure whether a traffic stop is legitimate, they should move to a well-lit public area and call emergency services.
The investigation remains ongoing.
