Sierra Vista, Arizona – A thunderstorm moving toward Sierra Vista put on a striking display over the mountains on September 14 as severe weather and flood warnings covered parts of Cochise County.
Time-lapse footage filmed by X user Jeremy Smith shows the storm cell moving toward Sierra Vista as it died out. Smith said it had been under a severe warning over the mountain before weakening.
The National Weather Service had a Flood Watch in effect across Cochise County, including Sierra Vista. That evening, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning covered west-central Cochise County near Tombstone until 6:45 p.m. MST for 60 mph wind gusts and small hail.
A Flash Flood Warning followed for west-central Cochise County after radar showed 0.7–1.5 inches of rain.
Smith’s post described the storm as a “Dying storm cell” that still “put on a show” while moving toward Sierra Vista.
