Lynndyl, Utah – Video filmed by the Millard County Sheriff’s Office shows the aftermath of a severe thunderstorm that tore through Lynndyl and nearby Leamington on August 29, 2026.

A yellow John Deere loader pushes a large uprooted tree and broken limbs from a wet two-lane highway. Overturned rail cars remain on the tracks in the background, while a person stands beside a white vehicle at the roadside.

A second clip filmed from a moving vehicle shows rows of snapped and uprooted trees, branches piled against fences, muddy fields and houses in the distance beneath a cloudy sky.

Straight-line winds of 80 to 100 mph uprooted trees, smashed windows, tore siding and roofs from homes and blew 34 empty rail cars off the tracks. About 40 homes were damaged.

Downed trees blocked state roads and delayed ambulances responding to a crash. A deputy left his patrol car and used a nearby front-end loader to clear the highway so crews could get through.

The National Weather Service later determined that the damage was caused by straight-line winds and wind-driven hail, not a tornado.
