Fresno, California – CAL FIRE’s Fresno Air Attack Base became operational just one day before it was called into action to support the fight against the Springs Fire.
A C-130H aircraft was dispatched and reloaded to assist, delivering nearly 15,000 gallons of fire retardant. Additional support came from the Porterville Air Attack Base, with Tanker 122 helping the effort.
Thanks to the quick response of air and ground crews, the forward rate of spread of the fire has been stopped. Containment of the fire has reached 85%.
The C-130H plays a vital role in wildfire suppression. It can deliver large volumes of retardant in one flight, helping slow fire progression and protect communities and natural resources.
CAL FIRE also used this moment during Wildfire Preparedness Week to remind residents of their role. People are urged to create evacuation plans, maintain defensible space around homes, prepare go-bags, and sign up for emergency alerts.
