Lahore, Pakistan – On February 8, 2026, the Basant festival brought vibrant skies and joyful crowds to the city as participants celebrated the traditional Punjabi spring event with kite flying.

The festival was captured on video by Momin Sheikh, an urban development specialist, showing dozens of colorful kites soaring against a bright blue sky. Diamond-shaped kites in reds, yellows, greens, and intricate patterns filled the air as families and friends ran to launch and control their lines.

Sheikh’s video, shared with the caption “Signing off an incredible weekend. Thanks to our Punjabi forefathers for inventing Basant,” highlights the joyous atmosphere and the cultural heritage celebrated during this spring festival.

The Basant festival, also known as Basant Panchami in some regions, marks seasonal renewal and honors knowledge, with kites, music, food, and yellow-themed festivities forming the heart of the celebration.
