Spain Storm Unleashes Raging Flood That Engulfs River Channel In Pontones

Pontones, Spain – Heavy rain from Borrasca Leonardo caused severe flooding as the river flowing through Pontones in the Sierra Segura area burst beyond its channel.

The swollen, muddy water tore through a narrow bridge passage, turning the confined space into a violent torrent. Strong currents created white foam while fully submerging the area beneath stone and concrete walls and railings.

Nearby vehicles, including vans and SUVs, remained on higher ground, surrounded by standing water but not yet pulled into the rushing flood. Rain and mist filled the air as bare trees and light colored village buildings with tiled roofs stood against fog covered hills.

A person was visible in the center of the flooded channel, appearing to swim or struggle against the powerful flow, highlighting the extreme danger of the floodwaters.

The video was recorded and posted by X user Miguel Angel Chapu on February 4, 2026. He pointed out that the river’s source is located about five kilometers away, showing how quickly the storm caused intense localized flooding. The scene reflects heavy rainfall and river overflows linked to the storm in parts of Spain, including areas around Murcia.
