Paramushir Island, Russia – On April 15, the Kamchatka Scientific Institution released a new video showing volcanic activity at the top of the Ebeko volcano.
The footage captures smoke rising from several openings on the mountain. The emissions have stained the surrounding ground a distinct yellow color.
Ebeko is located at the northern end of Paramushir Island in the Kuril Islands. It is known as one of the most active volcanoes in the region.
Eleven eruptions were recorded between 1793 and 1991. Most of these were small, with a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 1. The largest eruption, in 1859, reached a VEI of 3.
The eruptions from Ebeko are generally phreatic and explosive in nature.
