Tierralta, Cordoba, Colombia – The lookout pier on the Sinu River was destroyed in a dramatic display of nature’s force during severe flooding on February 2, 2026.
Footage from local resident Albert shows the river swollen with sediment-heavy waters, surging far beyond normal levels. Powerful currents, waves, and white foam battered the pier as it extended over the river, straining its supports.
The collapse unfolded in real time. Cracks appeared in the decking, railings buckled, and sections sagged under relentless pressure. Large pieces of the platform broke free with audible snaps and crashes, swept downstream, disintegrating further as they collided with the turbulent waters. Remnants twisted, sank, or floated away, leaving the viewing platform completely gone.
Debris including branches and logs added to the chaos, while overcast skies and the roar of the floodwaters emphasized the severity of the event. Nearby homes and riverbank vegetation were at risk from the swollen river.
Posted with the caption “Sinu River carries away the lookout pier located in Tierralta, Cordoba,” the video drew attention for its stark illustration of the flooding. The collapse coincides with reports of the Sinu River reaching 4.15 meters in Tierralta, following exceptional rainfall that inundated over 17 municipalities and affected more than 13,000 families. A calamity public status was declared, and authorities issued alerts for potential overflows from the Urra dam.
