Estrella del Marqués, Spain – Officers from the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) carried out a major raid on a private residence on March 21, 2026, uncovering a shocking scene of animal abuse and illegal trafficking.
Video from the operation shows every room of the house — living areas, bedrooms, hallways, and the kitchen — filled floor-to-ceiling with hundreds of small wire cages. Inside were more than 500 live exotic birds, including macaws, parrots, cockatoos, and other CITES-listed species. Many of the birds were overcrowded, visibly stressed, and flapping against the bars.
Agents carefully removed the birds one by one, placing them into transport crates for safety. A particularly grim discovery came when officers opened a household freezer to find approximately 70 frozen exotic bird carcasses stored in plastic bags.
The homeowner is now under investigation for illegal breeding and trafficking of protected species, as well as violations of animal welfare laws.
