Sakurajima Volcano Eruption Sends Ash Plume 2400 Meters Into Sky In Evening Blast

Japan – An eruption occurred at Sakurajima volcano at 19:30 on May 8, 2026 (Japan Standard Time), producing an ash plume that reached approximately 2,400 meters above the crater.

The event was recorded as a volcanic eruption with a clearly measured plume height rising above the summit area.

The explosion generated a visible column of ash and smoke extending into the sky from the crater during the evening event.
