Relentless Snow And Storms Batter Italy As Firefighters Race Through Over 800 Emergencies

Isernia (IS), Italy – The National Fire Brigade continues its intense operations following a severe wave of bad weather that has affected Central Southern Italy since Tuesday. From midnight on March 31, more than 800 interventions have been completed across Abruzzo, Molise, and Puglia.

In Abruzzo, 337 rescue operations were carried out in response to damage caused by snow, wind, and rain. The provinces of Pescara and Chieti were the hardest hit. In Chieti, 14 people were evacuated overnight from a home threatened by a landslide along Strada Anelli Fieramosca.

In Molise, 218 operations were completed across the provinces of Isernia and Campobasso. In Pescopennataro (IS), road access leading to the Sangro valley was restored overnight with the help of a snowcat from the National Fire Brigade. The operation aimed to allow emergency vehicles to pass after the town was cut off due to multiple landslides and severe weather conditions.

Puglia was also impacted, where teams carried out 276 interventions, most of them in the provinces of Foggia and Bari.

Across the three affected regions, 627 personnel from the National Fire Brigade are currently deployed, supported by 209 vehicles.
