RAF Typhoons and Red Arrows Fly Over London for VE Day 80th Anniversary

London, England – On May 5, 2025, RAF Coningsby-based Typhoon aircraft participated in the 80th anniversary VE Day flypast over London.

The event marked the Allied victory in Europe in 1945. Typhoon jets, along with the RAF Red Arrows and a P-8 Poseidon, flew over The Mall and Buckingham Palace. The flypast was part of the national commemorations of VE Day.

Pilots and support personnel from RAF Coningsby took part in the special event. Typhoon Multi-Role Aircraft from 29 Sqn and 12 Sqn were launched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The aircraft joined several other RAF planes, including the P-8 Poseidon, A400M Transport Aircraft, F-35s, and the Red Arrows aerobatic team.

RAF Coningsby is a key base in Lincolnshire, home to frontline combat squadrons, a joint UK-Qatari training squadron, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. It also provides round-the-clock Typhoon Quick Reaction Alert cover for the UK.

The VE Day flypast on May 5 celebrated the 80th anniversary of the official end of World War II in Europe, with the victory being secured on May 8, 1945.
