Mexico – Explosive activity continues at Popocatépetl volcano, with a volcanic ash plume observed rising to an estimated 20,000 feet (6,100 meters) above sea level, according to the Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) in Washington.
The volcanic ash was observed in satellite imagery and confirmed by monitoring systems, extending roughly 45 nautical miles southeast from the summit. The advisory reported that ash movement and height estimates were based on satellite observations and numerical weather prediction models.
The ash cloud was tracked from the surface up to flight level 200, moving southeast at approximately 20 knots. Forecasts indicate that the ash plume may persist over the next six hours, but no significant volcanic ash is expected beyond 12 hours.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and future advisories are scheduled to provide updates on the eruption and ash dispersion.
