Northern Kentucky, United States – An Ohio man accused of abducting his infant child was taken into custody after a multi-county police chase ended when his vehicle crashed into a church.
Authorities say Brenton Howland forced the child’s mother out of a vehicle on April 14 and then drove off with the infant, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
Boone County deputies attempted a traffic stop on Mt. Zion Road, but Howland fled. He was later found in Walton, where he again tried to escape from officers.
Investigators said that during the pursuit, Howland sideswiped a deputy’s cruiser while attempting to pass another vehicle, which led to a collision involving another car.
The chase ended when the vehicle struck the side of Walton United Methodist Church. Howland was taken to UC Medical Center before being booked into the Hamilton County jail after hospital treatment.
The infant was checked at Children’s Hospital and safely reunited with the mother. A deputy involved in the incident suffered minor injuries and was treated at St. Elizabeth Hospital before being released.
Howland faces multiple charges in Kentucky, including fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, reckless driving, and endangering the welfare of a minor. Additional charges are expected in Ohio and Greene County.
