Tampa, Florida – A Florida mother was reunited with her child after accidentally locking herself out of her car with the child trapped inside at a gas station.

The Tampa Police Department said officers responded after the mother called 911 and reported that her keys were locked inside the vehicle with her child still inside. She stayed with the child until officers arrived.

Officers approached the panicked mother at the Tampa gas station and checked on the child’s condition.

“She’s in her car seat,” the mother told the officer.

The officer asked if the child was awake and okay. The mother replied, “She’s more than okay… she’s awake.”

The mother explained that she had gone into the gas station store to buy popcorn for her child. After returning to the vehicle, she placed the child in the car seat and stepped away to pump gas, accidentally locking the keys inside.

Officers used a lockout kit to open the car door and reunite the mother with her child. After the rescue, the mother hugged the officers and thanked them for their help.
