Springfield Township, Ohio – Two Springfield Township police officers rescued a 13-year-old girl trapped inside a burning home on July 5 before firefighters arrived and removed a second victim from the residence.

Officer Cory Dorsey was on patrol when he saw heavy black smoke coming from a home on Traian Circle. He responded to the scene and notified the Springfield Township Fire Department about the fire before it had been reported.

When Sgt. Michael Roberts arrived, officers learned that the teenager was still trapped inside the home. Police said Roberts entered the burning residence through heavy heat and smoke and found the girl unable to move and drifting in and out of consciousness.

With assistance from Dorsey, Roberts pulled the girl out of the home before the fire spread further.

Fire crews were dispatched at 9:04 a.m. for reports of a residential structure fire with people trapped inside. Firefighters arrived five minutes later and began fighting the fire while searching for anyone remaining inside.

The second victim was removed from the residence by 9:14 p.m. One victim was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital, while the other was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment.
