Police Hero Stops Barn Fire Disaster In Innisfil As Dozens Of Animals Are Saved

Innisfil, Canada – A late-night barn fire on Innisfil Beach Road was brought under control through a rapid response after smoke was detected inside a farm building, triggering urgent action from police, fire crews, and nearby farmers.

At around 11:10 p.m. on May 6, 2026, South Simcoe Police were alerted after security cameras showed smoke and fire signs inside the barn. The farm owner, who was away at the time, immediately contacted emergency services due to concerns for the animals and possible damage to the structure.

Police Constable Colin Niewels arrived within minutes and saw heavy smoke coming from the barn. Drawing on his experience growing up on a farm and working with livestock, he entered the smoke-filled building to locate the fire.

He found the source and extinguished it before it could spread further through the barn.

Innisfil Fire and Emergency Services also responded, working to clear smoke and put out remaining flames around the structure.

Neighbouring farmers helped evacuate animals from the barn while emergency crews managed the scene. Firefighters stayed on site to ventilate the building and check for any remaining hot spots.

Authorities confirmed no foul play is suspected and the fire is not considered suspicious.

All 45 sheep and 16 cattle were safely protected, and the barn remained intact with no injuries or damage reported.

Officials praised the coordinated response from police, fire services, and community members, which prevented a major loss.

Constable Niewels was specifically commended for his quick thinking, courage, and decisive action during the incident.
