Police End Child Kidnapping Pursuit With PIT Maneuver After Driver Refuses To Stop

Gwinnett County – On January 31, officers responded to a domestic dispute after Saul Gutierrez took a young child and threatened to kill himself and the child.

The information was immediately broadcast to surrounding districts. Using Flock cameras, Gwinnett County Police North Precinct officers quickly located the vehicle and got behind it.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, Gutierrez refused to stop. Knowing a young child was inside, officers tried a rolling roadblock, positioning patrol vehicles around the fleeing vehicle to box it in and safely force it to slow down.

Gutierrez continued fighting his way out of the rolling roadblock and refused to stop. When a safe opportunity arose, officers performed a PIT maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end.

Gutierrez was quickly taken into custody while other officers immediately tended to the young victim. Thankfully, the child was unharmed and was very excited to get back to mommy.

Gutierrez was charged with Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer When Engaged on Official Duty, Interference with Government Property, Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree, Cruelty to Children in the Third Degree, Simple Battery Family Violence, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Transporting a Child in a Passenger Vehicle Without a Restraining System, and Driving Without a Valid License.
