Springfield, Illinois – A man was killed after being struck by an Illinois State Police patrol car on South 6th Street near the intersection of Linton Street.
The crash occurred on April 25th around 2:30 a.m. as an ISP trooper was traveling southbound on South 6th Street, approaching a green light.
Video from the incident shows Charles Henderson, 45, of Springfield, bent down in the roadway when he was hit by the trooper’s squad car.
Troopers at the scene provided aid until emergency medical services arrived. Henderson was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Illinois State Police said troopers had encountered Henderson in the street earlier that evening and instructed him that he needed to stay out of the roadway.
Authorities said Henderson’s family had the opportunity to review the video before its public release.
The Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation examined the case and submitted all evidence and facts to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Illinois State Police said details about the trooper involved are not being released.
