Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland – A tense standoff unfolded outside a hotel in Newtownabbey on 10 June 2026 as police and protesters faced each other on a residential road lined with houses.
The video, filmed by X user Neil, captures the confrontation as it develops outside the building.
The footage shows a group of protesters gathered along the street while police officers in full riot gear, including helmets, visors, shields, and batons, stand in formation near white armored vehicles marked with “POLICE” and flashing emergency lights.
A senior officer wearing a high-visibility vest and helmet moves forward toward individuals in the crowd, appearing to confront or push people at close range. An elderly woman holding a wooden walking stick stands near the front of the group. Some protesters hold umbrellas or record the scene on their phones, while others stand or move along the roadway.
Further down the street, additional police vehicles and a larger group of protesters are visible, with the main crowd held back from the immediate area of the confrontation.
The hotel has been at the center of anti-immigration protests after being used to house asylum seekers. The demonstration took place amid wider unrest across Northern Ireland following a stabbing attack that led to violence in Belfast and other areas, including vehicle fires and clashes.
Police deployed in significant numbers with riot equipment to manage the situation, resulting in confrontations captured in the footage and ongoing tensions over public order in the region.
