Pilot POV Captures Final AV-8B Operations As Marine Squadron Enters End Of Service Era

Cherry Point, North Carolina, United States – A pilot point-of-view video shows U.S. Marines conducting flight operations with AV-8B Harrier II aircraft at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.

The footage features Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 223, part of Marine Aircraft Group 14 under the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, during routine flight operations at the base.

On May 1, 2026, the squadron carried out standard operations at Cherry Point as part of ongoing training and readiness activity.

As the aircraft approaches the end of its service life, the Marine Corps continues transitioning toward the F-35 Lightning II, while the remaining Harrier squadron under the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing maintains operational readiness.

On May 15, 2026, VMA-223 aircraft also conducted flights over the coast of eastern North Carolina during missions ahead of the AV-8B Harrier II’s retirement after decades of service with the U.S. Marine Corps.

The video highlights cockpit-view footage of continued operations as the squadron flies the aircraft during its final phase of service.
