Pig Caught Breaking And Entering Home In Hilarious Incident

Rutherford County, NC – On February 16, 2026, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded to an unusual call in the Ellenboro area: a pig had wandered inside a home.

The unexpected visitor showed no fear and plenty of confidence, seemingly on a mission to find snacks.

Deputies engaged in a short standoff, using a pack of crackers and careful negotiation to convince the pig to surrender. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to Rutherford County Animal Control Services, operated by Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue.

Children on the scene found the situation hilarious, and deputies admitted it brought laughter to their day. The office noted that community policing can involve patience, humor, and occasionally, arresting a pig for breaking and entering.

The pig, identified as Penelope, has since been reunited with her owner, returning safely home with no court date required. Officials emphasized that pets are more than animals—they are family.
