Officers Rescue Baby Locked In Hot Van

St. Johns Town Center – District 3 patrol officers rushed to a parking lot near the St. Johns Town Center after a mother called 911 when she discovered her 16-month-old child locked inside a minivan.

The engine was off and the windows were rolled up when officers arrived. Concerned for the child’s safety, officers broke a car window to reach the youngster.

The child showed signs of heat-related distress but was found to be okay after the rescue. Authorities said the incident was accidental with no criminal intent.

Although the date was December 5, temperatures in Florida reached about 85 degrees that day — conditions that can send interior vehicle temperatures soaring into the triple digits in only minutes.
