NYPD Mounted Unit Hunts Down Purse Snatcher In High-Speed Horseback Chase On Upper West Side

New York, United States – An NYPD Mounted Unit officer on horseback chased down and helped arrest a purse snatcher in a fast-moving pursuit through the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

The incident unfolded near West 72nd Street after a woman stole a purse from an older victim, triggering an immediate police response.

An officer riding a horse named Kelly followed the suspect through city streets, continuing the pursuit as she fled along sidewalks and into traffic areas.

Body-worn camera footage shows the mounted officer galloping through busy streets lined with parked cars, shops, and pedestrians while repeatedly ordering the suspect to stop.

The chase moved through areas with construction scaffolding, delivery vehicles, and storefronts as the suspect attempted to escape through the neighbourhood.

A civilian witness later assisted officers in stopping the suspect, leading to her detention and the recovery of the stolen purse.

The suspect was identified as Felicia Field, 44, who was on lifetime parole for a prior robbery-murder conviction dating back to 2000.

Authorities say the mounted unit’s rapid response played a key role in tracking and apprehending the suspect shortly after the theft occurred.
