Nighttime Tornado Strikes Near Fairview As Storms Kill Mother And Daughter

Major County, Oklahoma, United States – Severe storms swept through Oklahoma on Thursday, producing tornadoes and leaving two people dead. One tornado was captured on video west of Fairview by Fairview Emergency Management, showing the nighttime sky illuminated as a large tornado spun in the distance.

The National Weather Service in Norman said crews will survey the damage to determine the tornado’s rating. Tornado warnings were issued across western and northern Oklahoma as the storms moved through the state. The total number of tornadoes that touched down has not yet been confirmed.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a mother and her teenage daughter died in a crash during the tornadic weather in Major County. Troopers said the woman had been speaking on the phone when the call abruptly ended.

The victims were later found inside a vehicle near Highway 60 and County Road 2435, just west of Fairview. Troopers noted that the car appeared to have been damaged by a tornado. Authorities have not released the identities of the mother and daughter.

Officials continue to survey the affected areas as emergency crews respond to storm damage across the region.
