Wall Township, NJ – Officers from the Wall Township Police Department, together with the South Wall Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and the Wall Township Building Department, responded to the Economy Inn at 2035 State Highway 35 at 7:27 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after reports of structural failure at the property.
Initial reports stated that part of the building’s exterior facade had fallen away and that additional sections of the structure appeared unstable.
When emergency crews arrived, they found an active partial roof collapse linked to damage caused by severe weather during the previous week. While personnel remained at the scene assessing the situation, another section of the roof gave way and collapsed.
New Jersey Natural Gas and Jersey Central Power and Light Utility responded to secure all utility services connected to the location.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.
Police officers placed caution tape, traffic cones, and barricades around the motel and surrounding parking lot to prevent members of the public from approaching the dangerous structure.
Township officials and emergency responders notified the property owner and will continue monitoring the location to ensure the unsafe building is properly addressed.
Video from the scene shows the heavily damaged motel with a large portion of the structure collapsed. Walls, sections of the roof, and upper floors had caved in, leaving debris scattered across the parking lot.
Yellow caution tape surrounded the site while dust and small particles remained visible in the air above the wreckage. The camera slowly moved across the destruction on a sunny day, with trees and another section of the building visible in the background.
