Ashford, United States – X user Thursdayexperience documented a muddy, slush-covered parking lot at Ashford Valley Grocery and the adjacent 76 gas station in Ashford, Washington, under overcast skies on the morning of March 14, 2026.
Snow covered the rooftops of the single-story stone-faced building, which displays signs for ice, propane, and various beverages. Nearby storage units stood in view, while forested hills and Mount Rainier appeared in the distance.
Thick layers of brown mud and debris surrounded the base of gas pumps, trash bins, and concrete barriers. Pools of water spread across the ground, reflecting the gray sky, while the area appeared empty with no vehicles or personnel present.
The conditions followed an atmospheric river event that brought heavy rainfall to the Pacific Northwest beginning March 11. The prolonged storm triggered widespread flooding, landslides, and debris flows in glacial valleys near Mount Rainier.
Authorities said an overnight mudslide forced the closure of State Route 706 just west of town at milepost 7. Ashford County Park was also shut down indefinitely because of unstable terrain and falling debris.
Officials continued monitoring rivers such as the Nisqually as water levels rose, though no injuries were reported in the immediate area.
