Mountaineer Rescued After Serious Fall In Spanish Pyrenees

Huesca, Spain – A 47-year-old mountaineer from the Community of Madrid was rescued after suffering a serious fall near Majada Alta in the Pyrenees region of northern Spain.

The accident happened when the man tripped on steep terrain and fell, sustaining multiple injuries. The alert was raised at 14:45 after it was reported he had suffered traumatic injuries and could not continue.

A mountain rescue team based in Panticosa, an air unit from Huesca, and a 061 doctor were deployed to the area. After locating him from the air, rescuers lifted him into the helicopter and evacuated him to Panticosa. He was then transferred by ambulance to Hospital San Jorge in Huesca.

The operation is part of a wider series of rescue missions across the Aragon Pyrenees since April 23, involving multiple injured hikers, climbers, and skiers.

Other incidents include a 46-year-old mountaineer injured near Pico La Zapatilla in Aisa after a fall, a 50-year-old hiker who broke an ankle near Rodellar, and a 42-year-old skier injured in the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park.

Further rescues involved a 45-year-old speleologist injured inside Santa Elena cave, three canyoning participants hurt in separate accidents including an ankle sprain and a puncture wound, and a 50-year-old ski mountaineer evacuated after dislocating a shoulder in the Cerler area.

Two hikers in Bielsa were also assisted, including a 62-year-old woman who suffered a broken ankle after a trip.
