Albay Province, Philippines – Mayon Volcano continued its effusive eruption on June 5, 2026, producing active lava flows and fast-moving volcanic material along its slopes.
Footage recorded by a monitoring camera and released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology shows a sped-up view of ongoing volcanic activity captured at around 06:31 PM.

The time-lapse shows bright molten lava emerging from the summit crater and streaming down steep upper slopes in glowing channels. The lava remains intensely incandescent as it moves through established pathways on the volcano’s flanks.
Along the Mi-isi Gully on the southern and southwestern side, sections of the lava flow front and edges collapse. These collapses trigger fast-moving hot volcanic currents made of gas, ash, and fragmented rock that rush downslope.
Rockfalls and glowing volcanic fragments travel alongside the main lava channels, creating smaller bursts of light. The accelerated footage compresses continuous activity, showing steady lava movement interrupted by sudden slope failures.
The lava continues to advance through drainage routes including Mi-isi, Bonga, and Basud, reaching distances of approximately 1.8 to 3.8 kilometers without impacting populated areas.
Authorities maintain Alert Level 3 over Mayon Volcano. The eruption is driven by ongoing lava dome growth and unstable deposits, and residents remain prohibited from entering the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone.
No escalation to explosive activity was reported during this event.
