Massive Winter Memorial Honors Alex Pretti In Minneapolis

Minneapolis – A somber memorial honors Alex Pretti on a snowy sidewalk in the city, drawing mourners and community members in the days following his death.

The post accompanying the footage reads, “Alex Pretti memorial in Minneapolis.”

The tribute, located along the curb near the Nicollet Event Center at 2818 Nicollet Avenue, is marked by orange construction barrels and red caution tape. Flowers, candles, handwritten notes, laminated photos, small American flags, protest signs, and banners reading “Rest in Power Alex Pretti,” “ICE OUT,” and “No Hate in America” cover the snow, reflecting the community’s grief and remembrance.

Alex Pretti, 37, was an ICU nurse and University of Minnesota graduate who worked at the Minneapolis VA hospital. He was fatally shot on January 24, 2026, by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents during a confrontation in the Whittier neighborhood. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting, the second fatal incident involving a U.S. citizen and federal agents in the city that month, led to the site at 26th Street and Lyndale Avenue South evolving into a growing tribute, refreshed daily by residents. Thousands participated in memorial bike rides across Minneapolis and globally in over 250 events honoring Pretti’s passion for cycling and community activism.

Authorities cautioned about slippery paths and cold conditions during related gatherings, while additional vigils, candlelight walks, and protests highlighted ongoing calls for accountability.
