Massive NASA Rocket Explosion Creates Towering Fireball Near SpaceX Construction Site

Cape Canaveral, Florida – A dramatic nighttime video captured the moment Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket exploded during a static fire test at Launch Complex 36 on May 28, 2026.

The footage was filmed from the new SpaceX building under construction, looking through white metal beams, scaffolding, and railings toward the distant horizon.

A sudden orange glow rapidly erupted into a massive fireball, expanding into a towering mushroom cloud of intense orange and red flames that lit up the night sky and surrounding clouds.

The fire and smoke plume continued rising as the handheld camera shook naturally while recording the powerful scene. Moments later, a loud boom from the explosion reached the filming location after a clear audio delay.

The video matched the original post text, which stated, “The New Glenn rocket exploded on the pad during a static fire test tonight on pad 36. Video from the new SpaceX building getting built. Watch it all and have your volume up to hear the explosion.”

The footage was recorded from approximately 10 miles away during Blue Origin’s hot-fire test of the uncrewed 320-foot New Glenn rocket, which was being prepared for a mission carrying Amazon Project Kuiper satellites.

The company described the incident as a major anomaly. The explosion caused extensive damage to the launch pad, including a toppled lightning tower. No injuries were reported, and the satellites were not onboard at the time.

The incident marked a major setback for Jeff Bezos’ company and NASA’s Artemis program, which planned to use New Glenn for cargo transport and future lunar mission support.
