Man Rescued After Getting Trapped Inside Philadelphia Manhole

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Emergency crews rescued a man trapped inside a manhole in the Bell’s Corner section of Northeast Philadelphia on Bustleton Avenue.

The rescue operation in the 8500 block of Bustleton Avenue took more than 30 minutes as crews worked to open the stuck manhole cover.

Philadelphia Fire Department personnel were initially unable to remove the cover. The Philadelphia Water Department later arrived and successfully opened the manhole lid, allowing the man to be helped out.

The scene included emergency vehicles, bystanders, and rescue operations on a city sidewalk.
