Kamloops, British Columbia – Firefighters responding to a wildfire helped keep a young mule deer fawn out of harm’s way during operations in the area.

For a short time, the young animal appeared to mistake one of the firefighters for its mother and stayed close to the responder.

Video from the scene shows crews gently interacting with and protecting the curious fawn while the wildfire response continued around them.

Firefighters ensured the animal remained safe from the fire until its mother was later spotted nearby.

The pair were then able to reunite safely.
