London, United Kingdom – The UK Ministry of Defence Main Building and the Palace of Westminster were illuminated in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag to mark Ukrainian Independence Day.

The display was a public expression of solidarity with Ukraine as its war with Russia continues, highlighting the country’s independence and ongoing defence against Russia’s invasion.

The illumination of the prominent London landmarks served as a visible reminder of the UK’s continued support for the Ukrainian people and their sovereignty.

Ukrainian Independence Day is observed annually on August 24, commemorating Ukraine’s declaration of independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Iconic landmarks across the UK were set to light up in the Ukrainian colours as symbols of solidarity, including Edinburgh Castle in Scotland.

The Ministry of Defence Main Building has been at the heart of UK defence for more than 60 years, while the Palace of Westminster dates back to the 11th century. Edinburgh Castle has stood on Castle Rock for centuries and was one of Scotland’s most significant military strongholds.

As the buildings shine in blue and yellow, their illumination sends a message of friendship and support for the Ukrainian people and reflects the strength, courage and resilience of a nation continuing to defend its freedom.
