Legazpi, Philippines – Mayon Volcano showed renewed activity as short-lived lava fountaining and pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), locally known as “uson,” were observed in the Mi-isi Gully.
Time-lapse footage and a close-up photo from the DOST-PHIVOLCS Quick Response Team at 10:07 PM on March 19, 2026, captured the events. Additional time-lapse video recorded from 09:17 AM to 09:19 AM on March 20 highlighted the intensity of the activity.
The eruptions produced gray to light-gray ash clouds, resulting in ashfall affecting communities on the southwest and southwestern slopes of the volcano. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
Mayon remains at Alert Level 3, and entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited to ensure public safety.
