Lava Collapses On Mayon Volcano Cover Villages In Ash

Albay, Philippines – Time-lapse and close-up footage from the Mayon Volcano Observatory captured consecutive lava-collapse pyroclastic density currents, locally called uson, on the Bonga and Miisi gullies between 7:01 a.m. and 7:09 a.m. on March 19, 2026.

These lava collapses produced grayish ash clouds that spread over communities on the southwestern slopes of the volcano, resulting in ashfall that affected residents and local areas.

Mayon remains at Alert Level 3, and authorities continue to strictly prohibit entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone to ensure public safety.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) continues to monitor the volcano closely, providing updates to residents and local authorities.
