Kilauea Eruption Captures Single Vent Lava Fountain In Nine Hour Summit Blast

Hawaii, United States – A timelapse video recorded on May 5, 2026, shows lava fountaining during a summit eruption at Kīlauea as part of episode 46.

The footage was captured by a USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory research camera positioned on the south rim of the caldera.

During the eruptive episode, both vents produced early lava flows. However, only the north vent generated a lava fountain.

The eruption lasted for approximately nine hours, documenting sustained volcanic activity at the summit of Kīlauea.
